A Deputy Minister of Education Rev. John Ntim Forjour, says the 30% equity that allows for children from deprived public schools to enter into the category ‘A’ Senior High school is a step in the right direction since it provides opportunities for both the children of the rich and the poor.

The Deputy Education Minister says, contrary to claims that the system is a disadvantage to children who are schooled in privileged areas, it is rather creating an equal platform for all.

“It is a very fair system, very transparent, to ensure that the child of the poor and rich have equal opportunity for quality higher education. In times past we have had a trend where most people that went to public schools in particular in hard to reach areas have not had that competitive advantage in getting some of the opportunities that others who went to schools in privileged areas had had” the Deputy Education Minister said.

“This equity policy has made it possible for everyone to have that opportunity to enter into category ‘A’ schools, and so we want to urge the public, contrary to some notions being peddled, it is a very fair system and none is disadvantaged. All these two systems put together make up a solid education system that we are serving in this country. It is fair to private schools and same to public schools” John Ntim Fordjour said.

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who was speaking at an award ceremony for teachers from the Young Executive School in Kasoa, indicated that the government is focused on ensuring that many more schools are raised to the standards of the category ‘A’ schools to ensure that school children who desire category ‘A’ get them.

“Government is poised to ensure that many more schools are raised to the standards of the ones that you will call desirable or category ‘A’ schools, and so the new schools that are coming up are going to be affiliated to some of the best performing schools in the secondary space, and this will ensure that we have many more category ‘A’ schools coming up to ensure that every child that aims at getting category A gets it,” he said.
