The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is inviting creatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) startups to participate in its newly launched competition.
The hackathon is designed for entities in the product manufacturing space and branding industry.
It was launched to mark AfCFTA’s third anniversary to be celebrated in May.
Interested participants are to indicate their interest in one of the following three categories:
1. Graphic & visual designing for brands (upload samples of brand art)
2. Voice & musical arts for brands (upload sample jingles for brands)
3. SMEs/startups (upload pictures of products and sample packaging artwork).Advertisement
The application forms will run till May 10, 2022.
AfCFTA said in a statement announced that, “to mark this grand occasion, the Secretary-General, H.E. Wamkele Mene, and the AfCFTA Champion, former President of Niger, H.E.Mahamadou Issoufou, warmly invite SMEs/Startups in the product manufacturing space, and brand artists and other brand creatives who can help such SMEs to refresh the brand identity of their products in order to boost sales, to participate in a Hackathon.”
Successful artists or musicians will be matched with selected SMEs/startups by May 12, 2022.
The joint creative-entrepreneurial teams must deliver the final creatives (refreshed brand identity as evidenced by sample labels/packaging and jingles) by May 19.
The best collaborative output, as judged by the hackathon mall and supermarket partners, will be recognised with prizes and spotlighting opportunities across Africa during the 3rd anniversary celebrations.

AfCFTA is an agreement among 54 African countries with an estimated potential of boosting intra-African trade by 52.3 percent by eliminating import duties.
It also seeks to establish a single market for goods and services, allowing for free movement of business travellers and investments.
Ghana hosts the AfCFTA Secretariat, which is tasked with the responsibility of coordinating the successful implementation of the Agreement.
