Although Ghana has made significant gains in the Covid-19 vaccination drive, administering over 16 million doses nationwide, vaccine hesitancy remains a challenge.

It is on the back of this that the  Ghana Medical Association, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association and the health promotion division of the Ghana Health Service are collaborating with other partners to create awareness on Ghana’s vaccination exercise, generate interest and encourage all health workers and the general public to get vaccinated.

Addressing the press, President of the Ghana Medical Association Dr. Frank Serebour said about 2000 health workers would be made vaccination champions to serve as role models and drive interest in vaccination.

“We plan to transform about 2,000 health workers into vaccination champions and build capacity in risk communication and community engagement to address issues of disinformation and misinformation regarding Covid-19 vaccination”.

He further outlined that extensive research would be conducted to understand the root of vaccine hesitancy.

“We also will be collecting data on the reasons underpinning hesitancy among health workers to understand and address the concerns and misunderstandings that exist.”

President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Perpetual Ofori Ampofo encouraged the populace to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols, especially with the recent increase in Covid-19 numbers.

“GRNMA and GMA are worried and encourage Ghanaians on the use of facemasks, observe social distancing and hand hygiene etiquette.”

“We, therefore, want to state that the preventive protocols are still necessary and vital in reducing Covid-19 infections among Ghanaians.

Madam Ofori Ampofo also encouraged all eligible Ghanaians to get vaccinated.
