Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital says it regrets the recent flooding incident at its Endoscopy Unit.
It says such a situation will not be experienced by both patients and staff again, since contractors have begun work to fix the problem.
In a statement issued today, June 23, 2022, management blamed the flooding on a partial demolition of some old structures to make way for the second phase of the construction of a new Psychiatry Department. According to the hospital, the exercise inadvertently resulted in debris, obstructing drainage and run-off from around the Endoscopy building, which is immediately adjacent to the construction site.
Plans are however underway to relocate the unit to improve services provided.
“We wish to assure the public that the situation is under control and apologize for any inconvenience and anxiety this incident may have caused our staff and patients”, the statement said.
Management maintains that the endoscopy unit has highly skilled personnel who, over the years, have consistently delivered expert diagnosis and treatment to many patients from within Ghana and the West African sub-region.
Last week, the endoscopy unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital got flooded after heavy rains in parts of Accra.
