Long-time artiste manager of Ghanaian global Afrobeats superstar- King Promise; Kwame Obeng-Kwapong, known in the industry circles as Kwaps, is joining the Recording Academy’s membership class for 2022.
The Recording Academy extended invitations to more than 2,700 music creators and professionals to join its 2022 membership class. According to the academy, the invitees represent more than 13 crafts and 22 genres, with 56% coming from underrepresented communities.

He joins a plethora of new African music executives and industry professionals for this year’s academy intake.
Some of the invitees include Nigerian musicians Praiz and Laycon, A&R specialist Abiodun ‘Bizzle’ Osikoya, Boomplay Ghana general manager Elizabeth Ntiamoah-Quarshie, and Empire marketing manager for Africa and the diaspora, Stephanie Adamu.
These young professionals join the ranks of some of the most influential members within the music industry, who have been chosen to represent the range of genres that the academy encompasses.
Taking to his Instagram handle, Kwaps excitedly announced his feat to his fans, stating “Officially a Recording Academy professional member! #GRAMMYs #iamtheAcademy”.

The Recording Academy is a Grammy award-winning organization that was founded in 1957 to preserve the history of recorded music.
