Assembly members in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have reiterated that they are not against the installation of prepaid meters by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to them, contrary to the notion that assembly members are inciting residents against the ECG, they said their interest is to ensure that the right things are done.
While meter replacement in the ongoing exercise within the Yilo Krobo enclave is free, request for a separate meter goes for GH¢700.
The Presiding Member of Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Robert Agedeh, who spoke to Citi News after a MUSEC meeting with the clergy on the ongoing prepaid metering installation exercise, called on ECG to reduce the cost of separate meters.
“Assembly members can educate the people through ECG but to say that assembly members say they will not agree for prepaid meters to come to a Krobo land, we don’t have that power like that…If something can be done to reduce the prices of the additional meters maybe it will help the people a lot”.
The Presiding Member also called on ECG to first target residents leaving in self-contained houses with the installation of the prepaid meters and educate those in the compound houses.
