Tree planting should be a continuous activity, not a one-day show – National Director of Compassion International Ghana

Kobina Okyere Yeboah the National Director for Compassion International Ghana, a non-governmental organization that focuses on the holistic development of deprived Children has urged that planting trees should not be a one-day affair but become embedded in our culture.

“Let us not leave the trees we plant to goats and cattle to feed on it, let us be intentional with the preservation of the seedlings we plant, this must not be an annual activity,” he admonished local authorities. He was speaking at a gathering in Addo Kwanta, in the Anglican Basic School to mark the Green Ghana Day.

In honour of the Green Ghana Day, Compassion International Ghana and its Church partners planted over 19,000 seedlings across the 10 regions it is stationed in. This is in line with its environmental stewardship programme which seeks to improve the vegetation cover and wellness of the communities CIGH is based.  In the various CIGH-based locations like Kuntunse, Afienya, Addo Kwanta, and Senya Beraku special Green Ghana Day ceremonies were held and seedlings like Coconut, Avocado,and other cash crops were planted.

Kobina Okyere Yeaboh, speaking to the media elaborated on Compassion International Ghana’s goal to dedicate a tree to every child that is enrolled on CIGH’s programme, since its inception in Ghana, 17 years ago, over 90,000 kids have benefited from CIGH’s sponsorship. He stated “We see the tree planting exercise as a sustainability project for the kids to thrive and as a Christian organization to protect God’s creation.”

Compassion International Ghana is a Christ-centered organization engaged in transformative child advocacy and holistic (physical, cognitive, socio-emotional and spiritual) child development, particularly for children living in extreme poverty.The organization through its Church partners and global sponsors seek to break the chain of hardship by equipping children with the skills and resources that will improve their social status and benefit their communities.  Compassion Ghana is part of an international global brand, Compassion International located in Colorado Springs, United States
