Danchira in the Obom Domeabra Constituency, within the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, finally has access to potable water after 24 years.
The only source of drinking water and water for other purposes has been the rivers which flow through the township.
The rivers serve both humans and animals alike. A few inhabitants who have the means rely on sachet water for cooking and household chores.
These undoubtedly put a financial burden on the selected few, while others battle with the health implications of sharing the river with animals.
After several fruitless appeals to successive governments and development partners, the Founder of Relief and Aid International and philanthropist Madam Peggy Naa Ayikailey Adamafio came to the aid of the community.
Madam Peggy single-handedly funded the construction of two (2) hydropowered boreholes to serve the Danchira Community.
The whole township was lit with joy on Saturday, July 30th 2022, during the commissioning and handing of these two community boreholes to the chief and people of Danchira.
In a speech read on her behalf by Madam Bertha Amanor, she said: “I have made advance payments for the electricity linked to these two boreholes to cover the next 3 years. In that regard, let me kindly remind us that the water is NOT to be sold to anyone at any cost. And pls, let us kindly take good care of these projects to enjoy the long-lasting benefits thereof,” Madam Peggy stated.
The chairman for the occasion Mr. Ishmael Ayeetey, former Accra Mayor and Greater Accra Regional Minister admonished the community people to develop a good maintenance culture, regular servicing and proper usage of the boreholes.
Madam Elizabeth K. T. Sackey, the Accra Mayor, used the occasion to express her sincerest gratitude and called on friends and family in the diaspora to look back home and emulate the kind gesture of Madam Peggy “as most of our communities still lacked access to basic social amenities.”
Thanking the founder and people gathered, the Chief of Danchira, Nii Ayerkai Andaman III, was not hesitant to express his overwhelming joy and appreciation to Madam Peggy and Relief and Aid Team for such a timeous project.
He also placed an open call welcoming more of such support to the community.
Madam Peggy Naa Ayikailey Adamafio is the Founder of Relief and Aid International, a Non-Governmental Organization registered in Ghana to provide community support services, especially to the rural & peri-urban communities in Ghana.

To this day, the NGO has provided seven major community support services in terms of Health Care, Educational Scholarships, and Sponsoring Trainee Nurses and Lab Technicians.
