A group calling itself the Ghana Anti-Fraud Alert has called for investigations into allegations of corruption under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
The group in a statement indicated that its call is premised on investigations indicating that some workers under the programme had been involved in some corrupt acts.
“These workers, the investigations established, either have closer relations with those who control the purse or those who formulate policies and programmes to run the Secretariat.
“One strategy deployed to get their share of the money is to flood the payment file of caterers at a specific location with ghost names whose e-Zwitch accounts are directly operated by them,” portions of the group’s statement said.
The practice is believed to help beneficiary workers withdraw money to the detriment of the state.
These claims come amid reports of food shortages in some Senior High Schools.
Some civil society groups in the educational sector have similarly called for a probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds and wrongful payments of funds to caterers.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme is an initiative of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme Pillar 3.
It seeks to enhance food security and reduce hunger in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs) on hunger, poverty, and malnutrition.
