The Chinese construction worker, Hue Xui, who allegedly inflicted knife injury on a Ghanaian worker at a construction site in the Western Region, has pledged his willingness to cooperate with the police and the court system to see to a conclusion of the matter.
Hue Xui, who is a site foreman for an ongoing construction project at the Naval base in Takoradi in an altercation with one of the construction workers, Isaac Boateng, is said to have cut him with a flip knife.
The victim, Mr Boateng, a machine operator on the project, was taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.
Mr Xui was subsequently arrested by the police for investigations after Mr Boateng reported the matter to the Takoradi police.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
He was on Monday, October 3, 2022, arraigned before the Circuit Court in Takoradi and denied bail.
In a statement, Mr Xui’s lawyers said their client stands “committed to fully collaborating with the Ghana Police Service and the court system.”
Mr Xui described by his lawyers as a law-abiding resident in Ghana got involved with the victim following a demand by him (victim) for his severance package to be paid immediately on site after his contract was terminated.
This was despite a prior assurance given by Mr Xui that despite his contract termination, his severance package would be paid in full, but was however not feasible to make the said payment on the site.
“Mr. Isaac Boateng’s contract was terminated by the site foreman, our Client, for a number of reasons including misconduct. Mr Boateng was assured that his severance package would be paid him in full. Mr Boateng insisted on receiving his severance package on site, which was impossible because the foreman could not have paid him at the work site. However, he was assured that he would be paid in full once the team returns to the office. Obviously not happy with his termination, Mr Boateng became very confrontational and attacked Our Client, the site foreman,” the statement issued by TaylorCrabbe Barristers and Solicitors said.
“The confrontation,” according to the statement, “turned into a fight and in the process, Mr Boateng suffered an injury.”
The lawyers say the victim “was treated and discharged on that same day.”
Mr Hue Xui is to reappear in court on October 11, 2022.
