Former member of popular defunct group, Dunsin; Sparqlyn has made a staggering revelation that the group should’ve won Ghana’s first ever Grammy award.

Dunsin, then made up of Ernest Obeng aka Omega, Ernest Wiafe-Koranteng aka Sweet Lips and Ahmed Kenneh Larweh aka Sparqlyin have records including “fefeefe”, “Oyadieyie” and “Falaa” which was formed in 2003, started recording professionally in 2005 and got their first smash hit ‘Oyeadieyie’.

The Grammy Awards, or simply known as the Grammys, are awards presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognize “outstanding” achievements in the music industry.

They are regarded by many as the most prestigious, significant awards in the music industry worldwide. Ever since the inception of the most prestigious award, no Ghanaian musician has ever won it.

The closest a Ghanaian artist has reached is a nomination. At this year’s event in Los Angeles, even though Reggae Star Rocky Dawuni bagged a nomination, he was not able to win.

Speaking in an interview with ghanaweekend.com, Sparqlyn stated that his former group Dunsin should’ve won Ghana’s first Grammy.

According to him, looking at the kind of songs they produced and the kind of impulse they came into the music scene with, he believes they were on the right promenade to win the award.

“Dunsin is the best group ever to emerge in Ghana…We were very well-prepared before coming out…We churned out evergreen songs which should’ve won Ghana our first Grammy”.

“But it’s very difficult to sustain a group in Ghana…the system is very polarized… It doesn’t favor groups…so many misgivings hindered our sustainability which I am ineligible to voice them out here,” he said.

Sharing exclusive details on what led to his long break from music, which eventually led to the split of the group Dunsin, Sparqlyn who was recently enstooled as a Sub-Chief by the Chiefs and elders of Krobo Odumase, hinted that Real Estate and Construction are what have taken all his time.

According to him, he was encouraged to venture into the real estate industry by his father who is also a  building contractor.

Apart from being a musician and a sub-chief, Sparqlyn as a solo artist now has released a lot of good songs such as ‘Your Body’, and “Tumpa” that are doing very well on various streaming platforms.

The ‘Tumpa’ hitmaker vowed to achieve all the delectable laurels Dunsin couldn’t achieve as a solo artiste
