The body of a woman believed to be in her early thirties was discovered dead floating in the Lafa River at Santa Maria Blue Kiosk in the Ga Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
According to reports, the body was discovered by some children who claimed to have seen a dummy-like object on the surface of the river in the early hours of Monday.
Speaking to Citi News, Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mohammed Bashiru stated that the police were immediately notified of the unfortunate incident and that the body was recovered with the assistance of the Environmental Protection Agency.
He claimed that the body was dumped into the river from another location after the body, yet to be identified, was possibly murdered.
“We received reports that a dead body has been found in the Lafa river and so quickly, we mobilized people to the scene. We got in touch with the security officers and environmental officers and the body has been taken to the police hospital morgue.”
Mr. Bashiru also revealed that the deceased’s body had been deposited at the police hospital morgue for further investigation.
The MCE advised residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area, particularly because this was not the first time such an incident had occurred.
