A fire outbreak at the Sefwi Dwenase market in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality in the Western North Region has destroyed shops and other properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
The fire destroyed several stalls and properties on the evening of February 28, and left the owners in tears calling for assistance.
Narrating the incident to Citi News, a resident, Stephen Akuadzi said he has lost everything including his wife’s dressmaking shop.
“The bigger shop up there is mine while these belong to my wife and my mother-in-law. My wife works in the one up there and this one also belongs to her, but there’s a couple living in the other building. Another woman also prepares ‘Tuozafi’ in the one over there. The fire was spotted burning from downstairs towards the upstairs and so many properties have been destroyed”.
DO2 Joseph Amehere, Fire Commander for the Municipality “advised the residents to do away with naked fires and also make sure that all fires that are used during the daytime will be put off and quenched before they lock up their shops for the day.”
