Some unidentified persons have broken into the Resource Center for the Visually Impaired students at Okuapeman Senior High School in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The thieves who could not get access to the facility through the main entrance forced their way into the resources centre using the window where they pulled the system units and monitors through the burglar-proof window.
The incident according to Citi News sources occurred when the school was on break for the Easter festivities. Teachers who returned to school this week, however, noticed the break-in upon return.
The thieves according to Citi News sources made away with 10 desktop computers, 4 laptop computers and a public address system used by students for oral English lectures.
“During the Easter break, the form ones and threes were in school before Easter, but they went on a short break, and we also went on a short break as well. Upon our return, we realized that the ICT lab of the visually impaired students has been broken into and about 10 desktop computers and 4 laptop computers in addition to the sound system that we use for oral English, lectures and other programs at the resource centre have all been pulled through the window. They couldn’t break the main door, so they forced some of the windows open and were able to pull the monitors, system units and other gadgets through the burglar-proof and took them away”.
“The resources centre in Okuapeman school about 7 years now is the only secondary school in Ghana to be permitted by WAEC to use computers to write final exams for visually impaired students and these are the same computers we have been using to train the students and also for both internal and external WAEC organized exams”.
“This is a trying moment for the visually impaired students who will be writing their WASSCE exams in July, they need computers to prepare for the exams and same computers to write their exams so we really need help as soon as possible”.
Meanwhile, the case has been reported to the Akropong police who are expected to carry out their investigations.
