The final funeral rites of late Ga Manye Naa Dedei Omaedru III will proceed as scheduled as an interim injunction slapped against the ceremony has been set aside.

Justice Patrick Baayeh, the High Court judge who granted the order of interim injunction subsequently said the order was an error.

While setting aside the injunction on Thursday, October 26, following the filing of an affidavit opposing the earlier decision, Justice Baayeh said: “I am of the view that the Order of Interim Injunction granted on 25th October 2023 was made in error. The Applicants failed to give the Court the true state of affairs.”

“In fairness to the parties, therefore, the Order of Interim Injunction granted on 25th October 2023 is hereby set aside. Any party desirous of proceeding may come on notice to the other party for a proper evaluation of the evidence from both sides.”

Some seven interested parties had gone to court over the funeral insisting that they had been sidelined by the Ga Traditional Council in the organisation of the ceremony.

Background

Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III died in December 2022.

A book of condolences was signed and opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on June 19, 2023.

The final funeral rites of the late Ga Manye were slated from October 15 to 31 2023.

The Ga Traditional Council recently revised its directive on the closure of shops ahead of preparations for the final funeral rites of the late queen, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.

The Council previously directed that all offices and shops in the Central Business District in the Greater Accra Region be closed for three days from the 26th to the 29th of October.

The Council in a new statement directed that offices and businesses be closed only on Saturday, October 28 and not the previously announced three-day directive.
