The Ghana Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) has donated an amount of GH¢21,500 in support of Citi FM/Citi TV’s #Relief4LowerVolta campaign to assist victims of the Akosombo dam spillage.
Since the controlled water spillage began at the Akosombo Dam in September, over 31,000 persons have been displaced, according to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The delegation from Ghana YMCA that presented the cash donation included National President, Mr. Charles Habiah, Esq., Greater Accra Regional Vice President, Robert Nartey, Executive Director Kwabena Nketia Addae, and Communications Advisor, Goddy Nana Mens.
The donation was raised through the kind contributions of Ghana YMCA staff, volunteers, and members, with generous support from our partners, YMCA Germany.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Charles Habiah, Esq., empathized with the plight of the victims of the dam spillage and praised Citi FM/TV for the initiative to provide relief to the victims.
“We know the challenges, the havoc, and displacement of communities that the spillage has brought about. The YMCA is concerned in the sense that we know that young people, and children particularly those who are of school-going age and those in apprenticeship, are all affected. So, we are here to lend our widow’s mite and congratulate you on the good job you are doing. We give you a big thumbs up,” he stated.
The Ghana YMCA Executive Director, Kwabena Nketia Addae, explained why the Ghana YMCA chose to support Citi FM/TV’s efforts to provide relief for the victims.
“At the YMCA, we serve. And we serve around three key principles, i.e., time, treasure, and talent. All our members give all or some of these three gifts towards making the world a better place. So when we heard your call for donations, we also called on members to give their treasure to help alleviate the plight of our brothers and sisters in the Lower Volta. I hope our small contribution helps to make a difference, and I call on all well-meaning Ghanaians here and abroad to support the cause,” he explained.
The donation was received by Richard Dela Sky, Esq., on behalf of Citi FM/TV, who thanked the Ghana YMCA for the kind gesture.
The Ghana YMCA is a non-government, non-profit youth-focused organisation committed to the development of the body, mind, and soul of young people.
