Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has supported the celebration of the 39th National Farmers Day Celebration with GH¢178,365 in Tarkwa Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, where it operates.
In the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, the foundation sponsored the award for the Municipal Best Farmer, while in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality, it sponsored the award prizes for the Municipal Best Farmer as well as the best farmer in vegetable cultivation.
The award prizes, totalling GH¢178,365.00, included two tricycles, two refrigerators, three television sets, a pumping machine and outer, three wax prints, an orthopaedic mattress, two mist blowers, nine knapsack sprayers, 15 fertilizers, five plastic chairs, 11 Wellington boots, 31 cutlasses, two pickaxes, a watering can, and three wheelbarrows.
In addition, Gold Fields Ghana Foundation-branded items such as school bags, water jugs, and exercise books were distributed during the celebration.
During the awards ceremony, the Youth in Organic Horticulture Production Project (YouHoP) and Community Oil Palm Project (COPP) exhibited some of their produce. These included cabbages, green peppers, carrots, spring onions, lettuce, cucumber, mushrooms, and oil palm.
Fredrick Baidoo, a YouHoP farmer from Mile-10, was awarded the Municipal Best Vegetable Farmer in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, while Lawrence Laweh, a farmer from the Bompieso community, won the Municipal Overall Best Farmer.
