Mr Eazi backs Afua Asantewaa in bid to break GWR Sing-a-thon

Acclaimed Nigerian musician Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade popularly referred to as Mr Eazi has become the first Nigerian celebrity to openly show support for Afua Asantewaa in her bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon.

The record is held by Indian Sunil Waghmare, who earned the milestone after singing for 105 hours from March 3 to March 7, 2012.

In the five-day event that began exactly at midnight on December 24, 2023, she started with OSIBISA’s ‘WOYAYA’ and followed it with two gospel songs.

It would be recalled that earlier this year, a Nigerian woman named Hilda Baci tried to break a similar world record and received a lot of support from Ghanaians.

Many blogs in Ghana shared her story, and Ghanaian social media users showed her their support. However, in contrast, few Nigerian blogs have posted about Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon, and Nigerian social media users and celebrities seem to be unaware of it.

Many Ghanaians including celebrities took to social media to express their surprise, asking if any Nigerian had tweeted in support of Asantewaa.

As a result, Nigerian musician Mr Eazi has gone to the Akwaaba Village to support the lady. Wearing a Ghanaian replica jersey, he became the first Nigerian celebrity to openly show support for the Ghanaian.

Other Ghanaian celebrities who were also present during Mr Eazi’s visit on Wednesday included ace broadcaster Gifty Anti, legendary sound engineer Kaywa and the president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Bessa Simons.

Afua Asantewaa has completed four consecutive days of nonstop music, during which she performed Ghanaian music from the 1950s to the present day.

Her performance has been greatly admired by all who have watched it. If no unforeseen circumstances arise, Ghanaians believe that she will break the record.
