Residents of Nsokote, Adansi Anomabo, Ofoase, Anomawobi, and other surrounding communities have demonstrated against the government over the poor state of a broken-down bridge that connects the Adansi Asokwa District to Asante Akim and Ofoase Ayirebi.
The residents lament that this development has adversely affected residents within the Adansi Asokwa and Bosome Freho constituencies in the Ashanti region and Ofoase Ayirebi in the Eastern region.
The broken-down bridge has thus cut them off from other communities, and as such, accessing healthcare services has been a major challenge.
According to the residents, twenty individuals have died while attempting to use the dilapidated bridge they currently use.
The residents have thus called on their Members of Parliament, KT Hammond, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and Akwasi Darko Boateng, to urgently intervene to ensure the bridge is constructed to alleviate their suffering.
Speaking to the media, the head of the family for Nsokote, Nana Essuman Baah, stressed that the inability for pregnant women to use the bridge has led to several maternal deaths.
For his part, the assembly member for Anomawobi electoral area, Daniel Adu, emphasized the need for authorities to, as a matter of urgency, consider the construction of the bridge as a priority.
