Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Save Aid has presented items to some schools and communities in the Eastern and Bono regions.
The items included 1500 exercise books, 500 textbooks, 30 school uniforms, 35 shoes, 11 belts, 100 pairs of socks, 900 bags of rice, and 500 clothes.
The benefiting schools and community included Nyansibu Basic School in the Bono region; Hwanyanso Basic School and New Hope School in Hwanyanso in the Eastern Region, as well as the An’nawawi community in the Eastern region.
The presentation was part of the NGO’s educational project aimed at addressing the educational challenges faced by children in villages, particularly those who walk barefoot to school or lack school uniforms.
Founder of Save Aid, Ayuba Huud, told Citi News in an interview on Sunday that their assessment of the benefiting schools and community was “eye-opening and heart-wrenching,” for which reason they went in to support them.
“In the villages we visited, we observed that a significant number of students faced obstacles that hindered their pursuit of education. Many of them braved the journey to school without the luxury of proper footwear, while others attended classes without the essential school uniform.”
“Furthermore, some students were compelled to write in torn exercise books, and those fortunate enough to possess uniforms often had ones that were visibly worn and tattered,” Mr. Huud stated.
Motivated by the profound impact they knew education could have on the lives of these children, they were compelled to take action.
“Our first step was to initiate a call for support, reaching out to compassionate individuals and organizations who shared our commitment to empowering these young minds. The response we received was overwhelming, reflecting a collective desire to make a positive difference in the lives of these children and the community at large,” he added.
Mr. Huud, therefore, expressed gratitude to their donors, who made it possible for them to gather a substantial number of essential items to alleviate the educational hardships faced by the students.
He also used the opportunity to appeal to well-meaning individuals and organisations to assist the NGO in its forthcoming initiative aimed at addressing the critical infrastructure deficiencies at Nyansiba Basic School by constructing six new classrooms.
“The current state of the school underscores the urgent need for intervention. The existing infrastructure is in a dilapidated condition, with the roof nearing collapse, posing a potential hazard for students and staff. In light of this, our primary goal is to establish a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.”
“The envisioned project goes beyond mere construction; it is a comprehensive plan to revitalize Nyansiba Basic School and uplift the educational experience for both students and educators. The proposed building structure will consist of six modern classrooms, equipped with sturdy desks, interactive boards, and educational posters. These classrooms will be designed not only to facilitate learning but also to inspire and engage students in their educational journey,” he further said.
Mr. Huud noted that offices would also be constructed for the headmaster and the teachers.
“Moreover, we understand the significance of recreational spaces in the holistic development of students. To this end, a spacious compound will be designated as a playground, providing students with an area for physical activities and social interaction. This element is crucial for fostering a well-rounded educational experience that goes beyond the confines of the classroom.”
“In addressing the essential needs of both students and staff, the project includes the construction of sanitary facilities. Recognizing the vital role of water in supporting various aspects of school life, our plan incorporates the installation of a borehole. This borehole will serve the dual purpose of providing a sustainable water source for the school and contributing to the general welfare of the surrounding community,” he said.
