NSA has not lived up to expectations in soccer management – MP

The Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee of Parliament, Kobena Mensah Woyome, has criticized the National Sports Authority (NSA) for failing to live up to expectations in the management of soccer teams in the country.

The MP for South Tongu says that although the NSA is duly equipped with technical experts, mandated to assist in the scouting of players and critique of the actions of the national teams, the Sports Authority has not played any key role in that regard.

His comments come on the back of the poor performance of the Black Stars in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

“There is this government institution that has gone to sleep. Whatever it is, we must get it to wake up. And that is the National Sports Authority. By law, they are to assist in managing all our national teams across the board. They have a say because they are supposed to have all the technical people in there.

They have people who must assist in ensuring that, even during scouting, they must have something to bear on decisions. Not impose in any way, but suggestions and critique some things. You realize they haven’t really played any key role in all of this,” he pointed out.

He, however, consented to the dismissal of the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton.

“It’s about responsibility, whose responsibility was it to do the scouting and get the best from this country and represent us. I think that was entirely his, the invitation to be part of Black Stars was his and the people he assembled to go and defend us was entirely his.

One would say that he allowed interferences because we warned him against it. As a technical head, you do not because it is your head that will be on the chopping board,” the Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee of Parliament underscored.
