The Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdalfatah Ahmed Khalil Alsatarri, is calling on Ghana and international organizations to support the call for a ceasefire as the Israel-Palestine war continues to claim several lives.
In a bid to draw attention to the issue and help Ghanaians understand the extent of the war on the lives of the affected persons, the Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana joined forces with the Socialist Movement of Ghana in a protest in Kumasi.
In a peaceful walk on the streets of Kumasi, scores of inhabitants, mostly Muslims, joined in advancing the cause for relevant stakeholders to join calls for a ceasefire.
The war between the Israelis and the Palestinians dates back to the mid-20th century. It is one of the longest-continuing conflicts in the world.
For the past three (3) months, the war has led to the loss of thousands of lives and the displacement of many. As the war intensifies, the SocialistMovement of Ghana is calling for a total ceasefire of the conflict.
The Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, who has joined forces with the Socialist Movement, in an interview with Citi News, described the mass killing and atrocities in Palestine as disturbing.
“They are killing my people in Gaza; today we can talk about over 23,000 people being killed, over 10,000 children, and over 7,000 women. My people are suffering, and I want the world and international organizations to intervene to stop the war. We want Palestinians to be free from any form of control.”
The Shia Regional chief Imam for the Ashanti region, Shaikh Mohammed Darul Hikima, who also participated in the protest, cited the fight for humanity as a fight for all and called on all, irrespective of their religion, to partake in the call for Palestinian freedom.
“This issue is not about Islam; it’s about humanity. We are going to invite churches to join this cause because they are killing Muslims and Christians. They are destroying both churches and mosques, so it’s essential to join hands for a ceasefire.”
Meanwhile, South Africa has presented a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
The country’s legal team has accused Israel of committing genocide against the people of Gaza, which is a violation of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, drawn up in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust.
