We’ve not opened nominations for internal election – PNC

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has urged Ghanaians to disregard a release purporting that the party will be conducting its internal elections across the country in the coming months and that flagbearer hopefuls were to pay GH¢100,000 as a filing fee.

The party, in a statement issued on January 2, said it would conduct its regional elections from January 15 to 31, 2024, followed by the national elections on March 2, 2024, and the presidential elections on March 24, 2024.

It also mentioned that prospective candidates eligible to contest in the elections were to obtain their nomination forms from the regional and national offices on January 4, 2024, adding that flagbearer hopefuls would pay GH¢100,000 as a filing fee, vice-chairperson and general secretary positions were going for GH¢25,000, while the national organizer aspirants would pay GH¢15,000.

However, the PNC, in a statement signed and issued by its National Chairman, Moses Dani Baah, on January 9, indicated that the January 2 statement was signed and issued by Janet Nabla, the suspended General Secretary of the party.

“The leadership of the Party would therefore like to inform all party members, sympathizers and the general public that the said memo is illegitimate and carries nothing but frivolity and vexation. It should therefore be ignored with the contempt it deserves,” Mr Baah added.

He stressed that the party’s internal elections always started with the formation of a Congress Committee, which assumes responsibility for all modalities of the internal elections.

“The status of Ms. Janet Nabla as a suspended general secretary or otherwise is yet to be determined by the court. It should therefore be noted that anyone who connives and condones the illegal act by picking forms for the so-called internal elections is liable to be joined in a contempt-of-court lawsuit,” he added.

Mr. Baah assured members of the PNC that sooner than later, issues concerning the leadership of the party would be resolved for proper internal elections to be embarked upon.
