The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has disclosed some measures being put in place to address the challenge of unearned salaries in the sector, starting February 10, 2024.
This follows concerns raised by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, James Klutse Avedzi, regarding the number of unearned salary cases cited against the Ghana Health Service in the 2022 Auditor General’s report.
The report documents a litany of payments made to undeserving health workers in various facilities across the country.
“Honourable Chair, what we have done so far is that we have issued directives that from the 10th day of the month, supervisors will complete the form for validation, confirming that these individuals are still working before their salaries are validated,” Dr. Kuma-Aboagye said.
This was in response to the health sector facing challenges regarding unearned salaries.
According to him, this would help prevent individuals from unlawfully receiving salaries.
“And we believe that this will help us cut off those who are earning salaries illegally faster.”
