Obuasi Area Church of Pentecost donates desks to Asare Bediako SHS

Inadequate furniture has hampered effective teaching and learning in some schools in the country. The challenge, which is also pervasive in public schools, makes it uncomfortable for students to learn in a comfortable environment.

At the Asare Bediako Senior High School in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti region, the story is no different. The school now has about 600 desks serving more than 1,500 students. At least two students are compelled to share one mono desk, adversely affecting learning and students’ punctuality.

This situation forced management of the school to write to the Obuasi Area of the Church of Pentecost, requesting additional desks.

In response, the church solicited funds from the 31 Pastors and their wives to procure 200 desks, which will go a long way to mitigate the furniture deficit of the school and improve education.

According to the Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Prophet David Kankam Beditor, he decided to follow up on the school’s request after spotting it in the handover notes of his predecessor, Apostle William Boakye Agyarko.

He commended the 30 other Pastors within the Obuasi Area and their wives for donating towards procuring desks for the school children.

He was, however, optimistic that the desks would offer quality education and proper learning environments that students of the school crave.

He advised teachers to double their efforts in delivering quality education to the students, stressing that they should be unfazed by the limited resources of the school and continue to demonstrate commitment towards their work.

Prophet Beditor again admonished the students to work hard and protect the desks to enable them to stand the test of time.

The school was established in 1993. The school, aside from inadequate furniture, lacks proper toilet facilities, with the only available facility in a deplorable state. The school also has no dormitory facilities for girls, forcing them to be accommodated in rented apartments.

Although the school has been excelling in academics, it is not fenced, allowing townsfolk to attack the students at odd hours.

Speaking after receiving the desks, the Headmaster of the school, Dr. Emmanuel Asiedu, thanked the Pastors and their wives for coming to the aid of the school, describing the donation as a timely intervention.

He, however, called on other benevolent groups and institutions to come to the aid of the school.
