The Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, has announced that the government has approved the revised National Water Policy to address the termination of regulation of the rural water sector.
This aims to strengthen institutional capacity for water service delivery and create a more conducive policy environment for small water enterprises to thrive. He emphasized the government’s commitment to working with public, private, and development actors to provide safe access to water for all.
Speaking during the Eleven Safe Water Network “Beyond the Pipe Forum 2024,” the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources called on the private sector to partner with the government in its continuous efforts to expand access to water across the country.
“Our Ministry has had very productive meetings with the SWE alliance on how to address challenges with lack of clarity on asset ownership, the elimination of service areas between urban and rural water services and the pricing regime for non-state water service providers.
“We are looking forward to collaborating with the alliance to co-develop specific work programmes that addresses these barriers and fill expansion programmes that align with the Ministry’s priority investment needs as captured in the Ghana WASH sector development programme.”
