A sense of nostalgia and inspiration swept through the Legon Sports Stadium, one of the stadiums hosting the All-African Games as legendary Ghanaian athletes made a memorable appearance to impart wisdom and motivate the younger generation to go for gold in the ongoing games.

The gathering, which took place as part of the Ministry of Youth and Sports media briefing on Monday, March 18, 2024, provided a platform for these esteemed medalists to share their past experiences and offer valuable lessons to the aspiring athletes participating in the games.

These athletes include Alice Anum, Oko Addy, Mike Ahey, Hannah Afriyie, Ohene Karikari, among others.

With illustrious careers marked by remarkable achievements on the track and field, these legendary athletes brought a wealth of knowledge and insight to the table.

Their presence served as a reminder of Ghana’s rich sporting heritage and the legacy they have left behind for future generations to uphold and build upon.

During the briefing, the veteran athletes recounted their journeys to success, reflecting on the challenges they faced and the sacrifices they made to reach the pinnacle of their respective sports. They also offered practical advice and strategic tips on how young athletes can maximize their potential and increase the country’s medal tally.

“Drawing from our own experiences, we aim to inspire and guide the next generation of athletes towards excellence,” remarked Hannah Afriyie a retired track and field athlete who won two gold medals in the 100 and 200 metres sprints at the 1978 All Africa Games in Algiers.

From mental resilience to tactical prowess, the seasoned medalists shared invaluable insights aimed at empowering young athletes to navigate the competitive landscape of international sports and emerge victorious.
