Otto Addo doesn’t meet GFA’s criteria – Jerome Otchere

Football pundit Jerome Otchere has raised concerns regarding the appointment of Otto Addo as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

Otchere highlighted that the Ghana Football Association appeared to deviate from its initial criteria in rehiring Otto Addo.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association approved Otto Addo’s appointment on Friday, March 15, fifteen months after he left the post.

Speaking on Citi FM/Citi TV‘s current affairs programme, The Big Issue, on Saturday, March 16, Jerome Otchere noted that the GFA had outlined five specific criteria for the selection of a new coach, which he believes were not fully met in Otto Addo’s case.

“The FA started with who they thought should be the Black Stars coach, the kind of qualification and credentials the person should have. They said they wanted someone who is a proven winner and Otto Addo is not a proven winner in any way. They even said they wanted a proven winner in coaching a top men’s national team and he does not have that record.

“They said the person must have a football philosophy that aligns with or complement’s our DNA, and I don’t know what our DNA is. They also demanded that he must hold the highest football license and I don’t know his license but I suspect he must have one and he is also required to have fifteen years of top coaching experience and I don’t think he has that.”

Jerome Otchere further told Selorm Adonoo that Otto Addo’s tenure with Ghana would serve as an opportunity for him to gain senior-level coaching experience.

“The last one is that he must have a proven track record in reconstruction, organisation, and development of young talents, and to be fair to him, he is now going to start that with us.”
