The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has assured that the government is taking proactive steps to resolve the ongoing intermittent power outages.
Afenyo-Markin conveyed his confidence in the government’s capacity to effectively manage and resolve the situation, citing past instances where similar challenges were successfully addressed after the administration assumed office.
Speaking to journalists in Accra on Friday, the Effutu MP emphasised the government’s track record of ensuring a consistent power supply, even amidst challenging circumstances.
“In any event, we know that for seven years even during COVID-19, a critical moment when businesses came to a standstill when government revenue came almost to zero, the government kept the lights on. So, it’s a real challenge we are going through.”
“Seven years of no power outage in the most difficult time in our economy, 2020, 2021, 2022 most difficult time, where the cedi was suffering, we came to a standstill, we kept the light on,” he remarked.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also called on communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to confidently defend the government’s achievements.
He urged them to actively engage with citizens across various platforms and settings to convey the state of affairs under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and advocate for continued support for NPP’s policies, particularly in education.
“So, our dear party communicators, the ball is in your court, this government will depend on you largely to disseminate the right information to the doorstep of the ordinary Ghanaians,” he stated.
