A group calling itself Concerned Traditional Chiefs in Northern Ghana is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to address the challenges plaguing the limited registration exercise since its inception.
The group highlighted several challenges that are hindering the smooth running of the EC’s work, especially in northern Ghana, and appealed to the EC to find solutions to these issues.
“This Press Conference therefore seeks to emphasize the need for the Electoral Commission to address some of the challenges observed during the September 2023 limited voter registration and at the start of the ongoing exercise. We therefore use this opportunity to urge the Electoral Commission to thoroughly assess the ongoing registration exercise for improvement and possibly extend the current date for the end of the exercise to enable more eligible Ghanaians to register.
“We want to reiterate the need for EC registration officials to adhere strictly to regulations guiding the voter registration process. We specifically want to emphasize the prevalent issue of disallowing or denying registrants whose eligibility is challenged.”
Addressing journalists, the Chief Tandawura Mohammed Amin of the Wasipe Traditional Council encouraged eligible Ghanaians to participate in the registration process.
