Sports Analyst Jerome Otchere has emphasised the need for the Ghana Football Association to establish stability in their coaching appointments for the Black Stars.
His statement follows the appointment of Otto Addo, who becomes the fifth coach in four years under the current administration.
Addo has been given a 34-month contract with an option to extend for an additional two years.
In an interview with Citi News after the announcement of the 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Otchere advised the FA to prioritize long-term planning over short-term benefits.
“We can’t be changing coaches like we change baby diapers, you’re always going to have a problem with that. What they have done gives a tenure of security. Coach Otto Addo knows that he’s the man in charge for the next 2 and half years, which is very important. We have to back him. We cannot be going to every AFCON, and come back, nine months we change a coach.
“Changing of coaches also comes with changing of players, because every coach and the kind of preferences he has in terms of the player quality. It’s very important that Otto Addo might be the 5th coach in the next four, or five years, we should look up to him, and stay beyond two years. After two years, he has said that we should judge him by the way the team plays.
“Even if we’re not going to win trophies, we can see that the quality of players has improved over the period that he has been in charge. We should accept that and build on that and see where the team will go.”
