Energy analyst, Dr. Yussif Sulemana has called on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to walk the talk regarding his promise of transforming Ghana’s energy sector if he wins the 2024 presidential polls.
During a meeting with the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that under his presidency, Ghana will move from liquid and gas in the generation of electricity to solar power to reduce the high cost of electricity.
Speaking to Citi News, Energy analyst, Dr. Yussif Sulemana indicated that this is a good initiative and Dr. Bawumia should ensure its fruition if he comes into power.
“I think this is good if we are actually being deliberate. They made a lot of promises to do that, but we haven’t been able to do that. So, if there is any paradigm shift then we need to put it into action. But other than that, I always say that electricity could be cheaper if we do the right thing, but we have not been able to do that.
“I would say that it is 50/50. This statement is holistic so if they are intentional about it, then that could have substance. I would like to see cogent policies because these promises have been made before, but nothing came out of it”, Dr. Yussif Sulemana indicated.
