The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced Ghana’s participation in the global commemoration of the 76th International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, which will be observed on Wednesday, May 29.
The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is celebrated annually on May 29 to recognize the sacrifices made by UN Peacekeepers who have lost their lives in service to peace and security.
The day, which will be observed under the theme “Fit for the Future, Building Better Together,” reiterates the contribution of UN Peacekeepers in assisting countries to navigate the path from conflict to peace.
In a statement on Tuesday, May 28, the Ministry stated that the commemoration will provide an opportunity for Ghana and other UN Member States to honor the memories of UN Peacekeepers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The country will also pay tribute to the professionalism, bravery, and devotion of all men and women serving in UN peacekeeping operations around the world.
Additionally, a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Forecourt of the State House on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, to symbolize the commitment of the Government of Ghana and its peacekeepers to upholding the ideals of the United Nations.
