Residents of Tetegu-Cemetery, within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, are calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to immediately restore power to their area, which has been without electricity since Sunday, May 19, 2024.
The residents have been affected by frequent power disruptions due to a faulty transformer, which has been malfunctioning on several occasions. The situation has taken a toll on the livelihoods and businesses of the residents, making life unbearable.
Speaking to Citi News, One resident, who operates a cold store, lamented the losses she has made due to the power situation.
“The outage is affecting us. I had to throw away all my fish because they went bad and now I’m at a loss. I restocked on Saturday, thinking the power would be on. The light didn’t come and had to throw them away. It’s really affecting us. The children can’t even sleep at night and are always late for school. We are urging ECG to come to our aid.”
Another resident expressed similar concerns, stating that the power situation has been “very bad” for the past five to six days. “I’ve thrown away all the food I had in the fridge because of the situation. And the heat is very bad. I have a toddler and sometimes have to sleep outside with her because of the power. We always have to go to different places to charge our devices, we are really suffering.”
The residents are calling on authorities to help them resolve the issue as soon as possible. They are pleading with ECG to send a team to repair the faulty transformer and restore power to the area.
