A/R: Sewua and Afari Hospitals to be operationalised by August – Okoe-Boye

The Minister of Health Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye has assured that the Sewua Government Hospital and Afari Military Hospital will become operational by August.

During his visit to the Ashanti Region to inspect hospital facilities, he emphasised the importance of the Sewua Hospital in reducing the burden on Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Okoe-Boye indicated that he will collaborate with stakeholders, including the Power Ministry, Energy Ministry, Regional Coordinating Council, and Ghana Health Service, to resolve power challenges and ensure the 250-bed capacity Sewua Hospital becomes functional as soon as possible.

He noted that the government has made significant progress in completing various health projects in the region, including those outside the Agenda 111 initiative.

“The Sewua project, this power issues and all that we are going to work together to make sure that as soon possible, this project becomes useful to the entire region. We are going to work with stakeholders, the power ministry, energy ministry, regional coordinating council, and the Ghana Health Service to make sure that this project comes out speedily.

“Bewkwai for example was started under President Kufour, we had another regime for eight years, and it was still hanging in the air. Akufo-Addo’s government moves speedily to make sure that this hospital is operationalised and it is the same attitude we are going to attach to other projects.”

“We should remember that there are so many facilities this government has worked on even outside agenda 111. If you take Agenda 111 out of the projects in the region, we have close to 20 projects that are full steam outside Agenda 111.

“My prayer is that we work hard and by August to operationalise Sewua and Afari because the two facilities alone will give us close to 600 beds, that’s almost Komfo Anokye.”
