General Manager, Administration for AMG Fertiliser, Dorothy Opoku is calling for a multifaceted approach to enhance agricultural production in the country.
Speaking at the CitiBusinessFestival Roundtable discussion on Channel One TV on the topic “Exploring Agribusiness Growth Opportunities,” Dorothy Opoku outlined several factors crucial for meeting the increasing demand for agricultural produce.
Dorothy told the moderator, Vivian Kai Lokko that acquiring the right seeds, fertilisers, and chemicals is only the beginning of the agricultural production process.
She pointed out that the right climate and machinery, which are highly capital intensive, are also essential.
“After you get the right seeds, fertiliser, and chemicals, you also need the right climate and machinery which is very capital intensive,” Opoku stated.
In addition to these factors, Opoku highlighted the significant challenge of storage.
She noted that farmers often face difficulties in storing their harvests, which can lead to substantial post-harvest losses.
“Farmers produce a lot and sometimes they don’t even have anywhere to store the produce that they have harvested,” she explained.
