The New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, has welcomed the government’s initiative to begin reconstructing the Nima-Paloma storm drain.
Speaking to Channel One News during the sod-cutting ceremony, Nii Noi Nortey highlighted flooding as a major concern in Okaikoi South constituency.
He emphasised that the drain’s reconstruction would significantly reduce flooding incidents in the area.
“Our main issue here is flooding, which causes significant challenges. Regardless of political affiliations, Ghanaians residing here will benefit. I’m thrilled it has begun and we’ll ensure it’s completed on schedule,” said the parliamentary candidate.
Earlier on Tuesday, Minister for Works and Housing Kojo Oppong Nkrumah inaugurated the reconstruction, which stretches from Asylum Down to the Odaw Channel.
The event was attended by Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Nii Kwarshie Glover, Deputy Works and Housing Minister Prince Hamid, and Korle Klottey Member of Parliament Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings.
Oppong Nkrumah praised GARID for progress despite delays, attributing them to compensation issues and design review challenges.
