From May 17 to 19, I joined, colleague seniors with whom I completed SHS/High School to return to our alma mater, Prempeh College, a decade after exiting its walls. Amanfoɔ2013 is a combined set of Form 4 and Form 3 students who completed high school in 2013.
It was all nostalgia, seeing boys transformed into men, a decade after crossing paths. The weekend was nothing short of reminiscence and impact, as we were back to the College that contributed to instilling Character and Integrity and building our Masculine Pride. We went home to give back, unite our paths, network and establish ourselves as Amanfoɔ.
We made a DONATION to the College; four (4) 10,000 litres Rambo Sintex Tanks to support the College’s sanitation, 200 branded plastic chairs for use in the College’s Auditorium, and a full set Public Address System to enhance information dissemination within the campus. Management appreciated our call to their aid, and were happy to have us back after a Decade.
Prior, I answered a call to duty by joining the Planning Committee for the Celebrations. I led the Communications and Media Team, and led the coordination of a Mentorship Programme as part of the celebrations. It was an absolute pleasure, seeing weeks of working with colleague Seniors, turn into a successful weekend.
Moderating the mentorship programme was the peak of my weekend. The session gave me a unique opportunity to share my experience as a mini-senior transformed into one of societal repute and ensured my colleagues shared as many nuggets of wisdom and encouragement as they could, with the hope of bettering the experiences of the students and seeing them become impacting Seniors for society’s ultimate benefit.
It was all joy, until we had to share some bitter experiences in the living, feeding and studying conditions of the students – an experience alien to the College. Since it came across as a better condition considering what other students in other high schools were facing under the current challenging state of our secondary education system, it was a oit to see it become a norm for months and for some conditions, years. As proud old students, in the coming days, we intend to provide a full report of our visit to the Amanfoɔ Global leadership for collective action to salvage what is left of our prestigious College.
I encourage all old students, to share in the pride of returning to their alma mater, and see what can be done to better the lives of learners, as a collective or individually.
Amanfoɔ! Seniors!
