Tricycle Riders in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho, have threatened to embark on strike for the Ho Municipal Assembly to halt the blockade of roads in the municipality as a result of annual assembly dues of Ghc360.
According to the riders, although the annual dues have been reduced to Ghc150, the assembly failed to inform leadership and members of the riders’ association, of the intended road blocking as a result of non-payment of the dues.
Prince Selorm Gbadago, the Public Relations officer of the Volta Regional branch of the National Tricycle Operators Union of Ghana in an interview with Citi News said the assembly must be considerate.
“We were paying the assembly GHC10 annually, then all of a sudden, they engaged us and told us we have to pay GHC360…Why can’t you consider Saturdays and Sundays? Sometimes the bike doesn’t work, maybe the person is sick, and the bike is in the house, and you want the person to be paying, it doesn’t work that way,” he said.
Some aggrieved members of the association in an interview with Citi News lamented over the increment which is affecting businesses.
“Other jurisdictions, they are still taking GHC10,” One of the aggrieved members said.
