Alan Kyerematen, the founder and flagbearer of the Movement for Change, has disclosed plans to change Ghana’s political system by ensuring continuity in developmental projects if elected.
According to him, the lack of continuity in developmental projects by different governments has negatively hindered the country’s progress.
Speaking in an interview on Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle, Mr Kyerematen accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to proceed with the Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) which was successful under President Kufuor’s administration.
He explained that when elected president in the December Polls, he would ensure continuity in governmental projects.
He also underscored the importance of track records by leaders as a criterion in seeking a position, explaining that he has an excellent record of execution, emphasising the PSI programme under Kuffour’s government.
“The first thing with execution is the leadership. If you as a leader, you come out with policies or programmes, you have to check your record, what is your own capacity for execution and delivery? Because it’s not about putting everybody in the same basket, that ‘oh politicians just talk’, if you audit the background of people who make claims that they can do A, B, C, D, you know those who have the record of execution and those who don’t, and my record is clear.
“During President Kufour’s time, one of the most successful agro-industrial initiatives was the Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) and this is not just talking about it, it’s about execution.”
“If you talk about sustainability, then you are bringing up the issue of how the NDC follow up on the PSI because the reason I’m still campaigning to become president is to change Ghana’s political system where there’s no continuity in the execution of projects. As soon as you leave, beautiful ideas for PSI, and NDC came and it was a different thing.”
