The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has filed a Right to Information demanding answers from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) following the decision to approve the sale of SSNIT’s 60% shares to Rock City Hotel.
His decision follows the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah’s announcement to Parliament on July 11, 2024, that the NPRA has approved the sale of SSNIT hotels.
The NPRA on June 28, directed SSNIT to suspend its negotiations with Rock City over the sale of four hotels, pending further evaluation and engagement.
In a Facebook post on July 12, the MP posed 5 critical questions, demanding clarity and transparency from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority regarding the controversial reversal of the sale of SSNIT’s 60% shares to Rock City Hotel.
“Upon my arrival from Russia this morning, I promptly filed a Right to Information request demanding responses to 5 fundamental issues from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA). This follows the Employment Minister’s unfathomable claims in Parliament yesterday that the NPRA has concluded its review under 2-weeks, and approved the scandalous SSNIT-Rock City hotel sales transaction.
“This rather startling piece of information from the Employment Minister comes less than two weeks after you instructed SSNIT on June 28, 2024 to suspend the processes leading to the sale of the four hotels to Rock City and to further submit all relevant documents on the transaction to your institution as the regulator.”
Ablakwa announced a series of actions to escalate national agitations against the deal.
“When we conclude with ongoing intense consultations with our partners and fellow citizens, we shall soon announce series of relentless actions as we escalate national agitations against this abominable sweetheart deal,” he stated.
