The Aburi-Peduase stretch has been diverted due to an accident involving a truck driver in the early hours of Saturday, July 27.
The incident occurred when the loaded truck’s air hose burst while ascending the hill, causing the vehicle to malfunction.
A minibus carrying passengers was also affected, resulting in some damage. The minibus became stuck, and passengers had to be rescued. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and all passengers escaped unharmed.
Narrating the incident, a road safety practitioner and CEO of Top Tech Ghana, Mr Cecil Ebow Garbrah, explained, “There was an accident on the Aburi stretch leading to Peduase Lodge. We understand it happened this morning. Traffic has been diverted to Aburi on the other side, so the dual carriage has been turned into a two-way road.
“The truck driver was heading to Aburi, and unfortunately, his air hose burst… Fortunately, I understand there were no casualties. The driver was forced to reverse, the Nissan Urvan driver saw it but couldn’t do anything, so he’s squashed somewhere else.”
Truck consultant, Ato Quartey, has also attributed the accident to poor vehicle maintenance.
“Once the air hose bursts, the whole system will not work. The truck was climbing the hill, got to a point where the hose burst, and it rolled out and as it rolled back, found it very difficult to control.
“It happened early in the morning around 5:20 am, the visibility was poor and all that, so, there was a minibus ascending the hill which also caught up in the accident. Nobody got injured, nobody died. If he had been doing proper maintenance, this situation wouldn’t have risen,” he stated.
