Some residents in the Airport residential area, which shares boundary with Dzorwulu in the Ayawaso West Municipality, are raising concerns over the siting of a fuel station in their locality.
The alleged construction of a filling station has already received approval from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yet to approve the project, which belongs to JP Trustees Limited.
Despite their objections at a stakeholders’ meeting, residents say the area is currently being rezoned to accommodate the filling station.
In an interview with Citi News, one of the residents said, “That place was originally earmarked for residential use then over time businesses started springing up. The area attracted companies and all that. Businesses have relocated to that area.”
“The proposed siting of the fuel station poses a great danger to both residents and commuters in that area. Because the area they want to site the fuel station is at a crossroads. The roads are so narrow that tankers may not be able to drive through, these are our concerns. We’re quite alarmed. What if an explosion happens?”
“There are so many people in the airport residential area just close to the railway line that separates Dzorwulu from the Airport residential area. NPA, EPA, and most of the regulators are aware of this.”
