Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader has asserted the independence of the judiciary. His comment comes in the wake of the Court of Appeals’ decision to acquit and discharge Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, in the ambulance case.
The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has indicated his resolve to appeal the decision.
But the former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu says doing so will further disgrace him.
Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, the Majority Leader noted “It’s a day to celebrate the judiciary. Mr Speaker except that we have to be very consistent as a political class in our celebration of the judiciary.”
“Mr Speaker I agree with the position taken by the Honourable Haruna Iddrisu. No executive arm of government can manipulate the judiciary arm of the realm. Mr Speaker, it must never be said that the judiciary is under the control of the executive.”
