The Human Rights Court One in Accra has removed Nii Nuertey Amobi’s name from the register of chiefs as the chief of Apolonia following land litigation issues.
The kingmakers of the Apolonia stool contested his status as a registered chief after he was accused of allegedly fomenting trouble in selling lands in the Apolonia area.
In her judgment, the judge noted that Nii Nuertey Amobi’s entry into the register was improper, and the circumstances surrounding it were questionable.
Speaking to Channel One News after the case, one of the guarantors, Seth Affum, noted that Apolonia currently has no chief and anyone who deals with the unregistered chief in any land contract does so illegally.
“Oh, we have won it. His name is going to be dispatched from the National Register from today. He’s no more gazetted Chief. Oh, if they [people] come to us with a grant, we can sell, anybody who needs land must come to us, the three heads of the royal clans we can sell. We can sell. Oh, if they come to us, we’ll never agree. We’ll never agree. We’ll find our own chief. We’ll find our own person to be a chief in Apolonia. We’ll never agree.”
“He’s not a citizen of Apolonia, he’s a stranger who came and settled at Apolonia. He’s not an Apolonian man. He’s not a member of our community. He’s a stranger. No, no, no. Only the three of us, we the three heads of the ruling clans, only the three heads of the ruling clans can sign.”
