Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, officially opened the inaugural Sinapi Aba Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Royal Golf Park in Kumasi.

This event, currently underway, is part of the 30th-anniversary celebration of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans.

The Asantehene was accompanied by Manso Nkwantamanhene, Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, and other chiefs, who joined the Chief Executive Officer and senior officers of the company.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sinapi Aba Savings and Loans highlighted the company’s impact over the past 30 years, emphasizing the importance of uniting corporate bodies through sports.

He stated, “Sinapi Aba has initiated impactful programs and touched many lives over the past 30 years. As part of our celebrations, we decided to hold this competition to raise awareness and bring together corporate entities.”

He added that golf was chosen as the most suitable sport to bring together high-profile personalities and the corporate world.

“We are extremely happy and grateful that Otumfuo himself joined us in the official opening of the tournament. We have many corporate bodies from across the nation participating in this event.”

Joyce Owusu-Dabo, the Chief Programmes Officer for Sinapi Aba, justified the event by noting that golf is an effective activity for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, especially for bankers who spend much of their time in enclosed offices.

He added that “As bankers, we are always in the office, but we also need to exercise for a healthy life. Golf engages the entire body, promoting a free flow of blood.”

She added that the event offers corporate bodies a platform to share ideas and improve their services for the nation’s benefit.

In the tournament results, Richard Osei-Bonsu won the Men’s Group B with 38 points, with Tony Appiah as the runner-up with 36 points. Daniel Ntim topped Men’s Group A with 32 points, Joyce Owusu-Dabo led the Ladies’ category with 34 points, Kwabena Poku scored 72 points in the Professionals category, and Samuel Okyere achieved 34 points in the Seniors category.

The tournament saw a total of 54 golfers participating.
