The African Union (AU) is calling on private entities to make contributions to the Africa Union Peace Fund, emphasising their significant role in preventing conflicts across the continent.
The Africa Union Peace Fund, established in June 1993, currently holds over USD$392 million in its endowment fund, nearing its initial target of USD$400 million.
The Union underscores that contributions from the private sector are not only vital for achieving this target but also for augmenting the financial resources available for peace support missions.
During an interview with Citi News at the AU Peace Fund event in Accra on Saturday, themed “Launching Innovative Peace Financing Mechanisms: Fostering Partnership for Sustainable Peace in Africa,” Dagmawit Moges, the Director of Peace Fund Secretariat, emphasised that participation from the private sector will aid in establishing peace and stability on the continent.
