Two more teachers have been arrested in Jachie Pramso in the Ashanti Region, over alleged examination malpractice, following an earlier arrest of three teachers and two residents in Bekwai for similar offences on the first day of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In an interview with Channel One News, the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Divine Walanyo Agbonyo, indicated that some supervisors accused of colluding with private schools to aid students during the exams have been replaced.

He cautioned teachers and parents to refrain from visiting examination centres to prevent further malpractices, emphasising that severe consequences await anyone caught cheating.

The Branch Controller also noted that some teachers and residents arrested in Bekwai on the first day were arraigned on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

“On Monday some people were arrested at Bekwai. On Tuesday we arrested some teachers too at Jachie Pramso. So far in Kumasi, these are the ones that have been brought to my notice. Before the exam started, we had a hint that some supervisors were arranging with private schools to take money so they could assist their students. We’ve had them removed.”

“Bekwai, three teachers were arrested, and those three teachers happened to be from a private school. Two guys, they were town folks at Jachie Pramso, two teachers. They have been arrested so far.”
