The top three candidates in the 2024 edition of Citi FM/Channel One TV’s ‘Literacy Challenge for Junior High Schools have been awarded for their outstanding essays.
They received gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.
Sarah-Anne G.N.K Quartey of New Nation School placed first, Yayra Afua Hatsu of Faith Kids Academy emerged second and Awura-Abena Abeka-Daniels, Mount Zion Methodist Basic School placed third.
All three schools are located in the Greater Accra Region.
Fifty One (51) students participated in the 2024 edition, a departure from previous years when only 50 students were selected for the rigorous Aptitude Test, which took place on Saturday, July 27, at the Accra Digital Centre.
The aptitude test marks the second stage of Citi FM/Channel One TV’s annual ‘Literacy Challenge’, an intellectual competition for Junior High School students across Ghana. The results will determine the final 10 contestants who will advance to the final stage.
The 90-minute test covered mathematics, English language, and social studies. The top 10 contestants will compete in a classic quiz competition for the grand prize of GH¢10,000.
The top 51 candidates were announced on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM on Thursday, July 26.
Launched on May 16, 2024, Citi FM/Channel One TV’s Literacy Challenge offers a reward of GH¢10,000 and a trophy to the most outstanding student.
The deadline for submission of all essays was Saturday, July 13, 2024. Interested contestants were tasked to write an essay on the “Role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana. What changes would you like to see, and how can young people contribute to making them happen?”
