Determined student overcomes obstacles to join Literacy Challenge Top 51

Yaa Achiaa Osei Boamah, one of this year’s competitors in Citi FM/Channel One TV’s 2024 Literacy Challenge, overcame significant challenges to make it to the second phase of the competition.

The top 50 candidates in the 2024 edition of Citi FM/Channel One TV’s ‘Literacy Challenge for Junior High School Students’ were scheduled to take an Aptitude Test on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Accra Digital Centre.

The top 50 candidates were announced on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM on Thursday, July 26.

Yaa, whose parents initially indicated her inability to travel from Bolgatanga to Accra for the Aptitude Test, had to persuade her parents to fly her to Accra.

The initial communication of her absence forced Citi FM/Channel One TV to rope in the next best student.

However, following Yaa’s determined decision to go ahead, the management of Citi FM/Channel One TV resolved to keep both in the competition, pushing the number to 51.

“It wasn’t difficult, I just came and went to my uncle’s place. We had a funeral in Cape Coast, and there was no one in the house. I forced my father to let me come. I’m very prepared,” Yaa stated.

Launched on May 16, 2024, Citi FM/Channel One TV’s Literacy Challenge offers a reward of GH¢10,000 and a trophy to the most outstanding student.
